To be honest, I am not sure where to begin when it comes to this topic. For a long time, I always felt inadequate, never truly feeling enough. But really what is enough and can there ever be enough? In Economics, you learn that human wants are insatiable so it is like we are on a constant journey to fill an endless gaping hole aka the black hole of human existence. Let me go scientific for a bit. What is a black hole? Put simply, it is a place in space where gravity pulls so much that even light can not get out. Black holes occur when a star is dying. Selah! aka think about it. Can you imagine being tasked as a human to find a way to close such an entity? Now that everyday people are travelling into space, it is most likely we could encounter one. How terrifying would that be? So why do we think we can ever fill the black hole of worldly expectations/standards over beauty, career, success, you name it. We can’t and we were not meant to. The question remains who is able to fill the gaping hole in our lives that compels us to fill? As women, we are constantly faced with pressures to be perfect and what others call beautiful. The funny thing about beauty is that it is all around us. When we look at creation from the sky to flower fields we see beauty, each beautiful in its own way without striving. The Bible reminds us constantly that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made”, each of us in our own unique way whether we are short, tall, big belly, fat tummy, big boobs or small, you name that insecurity; it is beautiful. Our femininity is first a Spiritual Beauty before anything else and that is what nourishes our souls and fills the hole. A beauty that is centered on Christ and not the world’s standards which is based on deception, depression and deprivation. I have come to learn that a Christ-centred beauty aka Godly Femininity is a blessing. It heals, inspires and encourages others. It is life giving and not soul sucking like the black hole I mentioned earlier. The color pink represents nurturing femininity and romance. Being called to wear pink is an invitation to a nurturing beautiful nature that can only be accessed by an intimate relationship with God. It is a call to surrender everything you think you are and take up your true identity as one of inestimable value. So dear reader, I would like to invite you to go on this journey with me. It won’t be easy because we have to address our baggage aka emotional hurts, harmful behavioural patterns and creeping mindsets but it would be worth it to behold our true beauty. A caterpillar embraces the struggle to trim its baggage and become a butterfly. It is time to awaken our inner butterflies.
